The One
Roberto E. DeBourg
It seems we found a new reason to last one more day
One more call to each other when feeling afraid
And in spite of the distance the night's given us
You seem rather unsure but believe you I must
Not a difference between us but We're not the same
Though we struggle at times we learned coping with pain
Through this land and its waters you held hands with me
Up from Washington State to The Florida Keys
But you run for the hills when the weather gets rough
Expectations get higher, our characters soft
While you wait for the good one to admire your sway
This new world keeps on turning and the one slips away
For the times have been changing, I'm sure you can tell
We keep growing stronger, in numbers as well
As the garden keeps spreading around our old place
Time is writing its gospel with lines on our face
We will never need shade if we shine from above
And I'll be your quick fix when emotions die off
I can't force you to be by my side through the night
I'm not saying you're wrong but I sure could be right
But you run for the hills when the weather gets rough
Coughing foul one more time, wondering: "Where is my love?"
While you wait for the right one to admire your sway
This new world keeps on turning and the one slips away
When the calls fade away and your feelings get dark
You will find that my way was not far from the mark
We will never need shade if we shine from above
And I'll be your quick fix when emotions thin, love
And you run for the hills while I howl to the moon
May be this is our time and you ran way too soon
While you wait for the cool one to admire your sway
This new world kept on turning and this one slipped away
